Veltri’s trucking equipment is some of the best in the industry. Most of our equipment is less than two years old, and our older tractors are limited to shorter trips. We have a comprehensive, in-house maintenance program and perform regular maintenance on all of our equipment.
Veltri has a variety of tractors and trailers to choose from for New Jersey trucking, Pennsylvania trucking, and Delaware trucking. Our over 60 new or newer Volvo and Freightliner brand tractors, are more fuel-efficient which is better for the environment. These lighter units are still powerful enough to take on tough jobs. We also have 120 (and soon to be 170) Great Dane trailers, which have the durability, efficiency, and performance needed to cover the miles. All of our trailers have satellite tracking and our power units have Fleetmatics GPS units to track all shipments.
Preventive maintenance (PM) is the key to any successful maintenance program for commercial motor vehicles. Through preventive maintenance, vehicles are inspected, repaired, and maintained in such a way that defects are prevented from surfacing in the first place, before a violation, breakdowns or accidents occur.
If vehicles are only brought into the shop when they need something, the program is not preventive, it is reactionary. The problem with reactionary maintenance programs is that they are based on failure, i.e., you notice something has failed and you fix it. This type of maintenance program is destined to lead to down-time and the resulting costs of idle equipment.
Veltri has one of the best preventive maintenance programs in the industry.
Our trucks are PM’d every 20,000 miles. All drivers perform a pre-trip inspection on their daily equipment before they start their shift. This means if there is anything in question with the equipment the repairs are fixed either on the spot or brought to either of our two maintenance facilities. Drivers are also responsible for a prost-trip at the end of their shift as well. Drivers fill out a (VIR) vehicle inspection report and if anything is found they notify their supervisor. If they discover a safety issue with the equ8pment this takes priority and the equipment is put out of service and repaired before the truck is put on the road.
Preventive maintenance is a commitment. It means being constantly on the lookout for things that might go wrong. It means purchasing the best equipment and then taking care of it.
Preventative Maintenance for Trucks
The actual maintenance portion of PM is composed of scheduled and standardized inspections and maintenance.
- PM Service is performed every 20,000 miles. This includes all filters, oil, full lube, driveline, lights, tires, 5th wheel service, brakes and adjustments.
- PM Dservice is either a scheduled rebuild or replacement of a major component such as a radiator, turbo, transmission, or axle. PM D may also include seasonal service like winterization or preparation for summer heat.
- (PSI) State inspection is performed annually on all trucks.
- DOT inspection I performed annually on all equipment.
- A roadside DOT inspection is conducted by the Department of Transportation to ensure that all CMV parts and accessories are safe, in good condition and are working properly.
Preventative Maintenance for Trailers
Trailers are subject to the same Preventative Maintenance program as trucks. Typical preventive maintenance scheduling for a trailer is:
- T-1 Driver pre/post-trip inspection. This service includes the checking of lights, tires, brakes, coupling devices and safety equipment.
- T2 services are scheduled annually. These include all the items in a T1 and a more in-depth inspection such as an alignment and /or a complete brake overhaul.
- DOT inspection I performed annually on all equipment.
- A roadside DOT inspection is conducted by the Department of Transportation to ensure that all CMV parts and accessories are safe, in good condition and are working properly.
