Fleet Safety Conference Addresses Medium-Duty Trucks

New questions are expected to be raised at the upcoming Fleet Safety Conference to be held in Schaumburg, Ill. This is likely due to the new study conducted by the American Transportation Research Institute, which found that medium-duty trucks have had a worse crash record than heavy-duty trucks over the past decade. Since medium-duty trucks have been found to be involved in a disproportionate number of fatalities, concerns are obviously being raised.

Although the National Transportation Safety Board is mainly responsible for voicing concerns about the study’s findings, the NTSB can only make recommendations and cannot write rules. One of the NTSB’s recommendations is that the government should consider a requiring medium-duty straight truck drivers to acquire commercial driver’s licenses.

The panel discussion covering medium-duty truck safety will be held on June 27 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Since Veltri Inc. is invested in safe driving practices, this panel discussion promises to be an interesting examination on what safety measures need to be put in place in order to protect drivers on the road.
