History of Veltri Inc

Regional Trucking | About Us | Veltri, IncIn 1948 after serving his country in WWII, Pietro (Pete) Veltri returned to Washington, PA. He looked forward to spending time again with his family and hoped to open his own business some day. He was surprised to find that most of the paychecks he sent to help support his parents, brothers and sisters while in active duty were saved by his mother. With his talent as a tailor combined with the saved money, he started a family dry cleaning business. Pete served the community with a successful business that continues to operate today.

In the summer of 1973, the local postmaster and customer of Pete’s, suggested that the US Postal Service could use his type of customer focused service by hauling mail. A few months later, with his characteristic entrepreneurial spirit, Pete and his sons were in the regional trucking business. What began as two trucks operating between Wheeling, WV and Pittsburgh, PA. is now a major trucking company based in the North East and Mid Atlantic area of the US. We specialize in regional trucking in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

In 1998, Pete passed the torch to his son and current President, Tony Veltri. Tony continues the Veltri tradition of great service. To this day, the excellent work ethic of our founder lives on in the Veltri family and Veltri Inc. When it comes to trucking, superior service is still at the heart of our company.

At Veltri, our mission is to provide superior service to our customers and a safe, fulfilling work environment for our employees while adhering to the highest safety and ecological standards in the industry.

Giving Back to the Community

regional truckingVeltri gives back in ways that benefit the community and the people who live there. One recent story of a business/community partnership really tells our story.

Adopting the Co-op Program

Part-time Veltri driver, Tim McCrane was also a full-time teacher in the diesel program at Bucks County (PA) Technical High School. Tim pitched the idea to Veltri about getting into the high school’s cooperative education program. As part of the school’s “School-to-Career Opportunities,” the program provides students with work-based experiences before graduation. Veltri’s goal was to help young aspiring mechanics by putting them in an actual diesel shop. There they could get the opportunity to put what they learned in class into action in a real work situation. In addition, the student received a wage so they could buy tools that they needed for their craft.

Co-op Program Brings New Life to Fleet Maintenance Group

Veltri adopted the program in early 2019 and selected Aliyah to be their first student. Aliyah “co-op’d” for the second half of her senior year in high school and did exceptionally well. She joined Veltri full time as a junior mechanic after she graduated and continues to learn and grow. “While it’s fair to say that Aliyah has learned a lot from the program, we would also say that we got a lot from the program as well, “ said Tim. “ We got a wonderful young person who is full of energy and has a good basic understanding of the trade. She’s cheerful and excited every day. The co-op program brought new life to our fleet maintenance group.”

Aliyah has been under the guidance of Don Heim and Billy Burns. In the process, Tim was moved from part-time driver to part-time mechanic. Tim and Don have played key roles in bringing the program to fruition, while Billy has supplied Aliyah with technical and practical training.

Veltri Inc. is Committed to Giving Young Adults a Boost

The way that Veltri gives back is to continue to bring in co-op students from the local technical high school. After seeing the results, they are committed to giving young adults the chance to enhance their education. It’s a real win-win situation: The industry is short mechanics and the students who truly have a passion for the field are given the best opportunities to get ahead in their profession and life.

And, as an additional way of staying connected and adding value to the community, Veltri donated a tractor to the Bucks County Technical High School for their diesel mechanics program.
